On Friday, while I was about to get ready to go to work, one of our shelter’s social workers comes into my dorm.

He’s walking down the row, knocking on the walls to see if anyone’s in their room, and if they respond, they are subject to an impromptu search of their posessions, to check for contraband.

I found a delightful amount of humor in part of the list that is considered contraband. Some of the items we are not allowed to have up here are pornography, alcohol, narcotics, weaponry, and (get this) ’adult toys’. In fact, someone was removed from the program earlier in the week, on an unrelated issue, and when they went to clean up what he left, they found several phallic adult toys up here. This, in turn, sparked the dorm by dorm content check to see if they can spot the objects.

There have been many males discharged from the program in the last few weeks, and honestly, I assume they deserved it for whatever reason they were discharged. After all, it was made clear to me that when I came up here, this was a religious organization, so I pretty much assumed that, of course, things like pornography and drugs, or even alcohol would not be allowed up here. I also assumed that for a program that has 42 men living together under the same roof would have no room for weapons.

I am, given my nature, of two minds about the adult toys. Some of them serve a specific purpose, and would be a more viable alternative than intercourse with an unknown person, so I’d side with the owner of the toys. However, I can see where those who follow the Holy Bible strictly would be offended by the presence of these things, and thus I can see where they are coming from as well, and would side with them just as evenly.

I think the rest of my humor about this comes from just how this social worker pronounces the plural form of ’dildo’. I think it sounds like a combination of ’dildo’ and ’Thor’ (link removed to keep you all sane, haha).

I’ll just sit back and wait for the next ’dildor search’. :D

Rape, Raep~, Rape.

A forewarning:

This post is going to be full of me ranting and rambling about a blog entry that ever so slightly irked me.

It will be full of coarse language, which, like coarse sandpaper rubbed against your skin, will irritate you.

If you are offended by coarse language, please do not read this entry.

Only in Japan :)

I made a comment on the PayPerPost forums recently, mentioning that all the good stuff to watch is all in Japan.

It might be because the rules binding television there aren’t as stupid as they are here in the United States.
For example, here in the states, I extremely doubt that they would ever air some of the comedy shows or game shows they air in Japan. I present one of my favorite examples, Hard Gay.

Here in America, it seems that they are slowly getting over their fear of the word “Gay”, with such (boring) shows as “Queer Eye”, but there’s no real humor in American makeover shows.

Hard Gay is definitely not a makeover show. The content is (mostly) safe enough to be viewed, though there is one questionable shot taken in Hard Gay - Ramen that you can tell was not really meant to be anything.

There’s also Gaki no Tsukai, which seems to be mostly based on a punishment game. If you laugh at the defined subject (be it a butchered English video, or at Karaoke), you are punished.

I suggest watching. :)

Sometimes, video games can be used for parody videos, among other things.

I’d like to share a few of the videos that I found humorous. :)

The first video is a parody of the old “Captain Planet” cartoons that used to air back in the… early 90’s, I believe it was. I grew up on the show, and used to (this is embarassing) sing along with the opening music. :P
The game of choice for this video was Sega’s Phantasy Star Universe.
Enjoy.

This second video goes back just a little farther, to one Michael Jackson. In NCSoft’s Guild Wars, this dance should take you back to the 80’s.
Enjoy. :)

And finally, an old classic that I’m sure many will enjoy, and someone will be offended by:
The Internet is for Porn. The game of choice for this was World of Warcraft, which everyone is so obsessed with, it seems.
Please, wait until after the short film to unzip your flies. :)

Mark Leung’s “College Saga”

This morning, I was catching up on Spiky-Haired Dragon, Worthless Knight, and the link of the day pointed over to a set of videos labeled “College Saga“.

I started watching the videos this morning, to get myself going, and found myself laughing for the majority of the video. Being a gamer, and mostly an RPG gamer at that, I can appreciate the numerous references to various older RPGs, as well as a few newer ones. There’re also a couple of veiled anime references there, as well, which only made it funnier.

I recommend watching the videos for a good laugh. :)

You may start that by visiting CollegeSaga.com from this link.

You may also find the video in a single, continuous format on YouTube by clicking anywhere on this sentence.

If you’re into skipping the rest of the cruft (commentary, ads, whathaveye), then click this sentence for an alternative YouTube link.

ChaCha!

So, earlier tonight, I noticed I was being bombarded by email that all fit a similar pattern:

  • Most of them are ‘bounced’ emails
  • All of them have an attachment (either 1.msg, or a GIF with a random filename).
  • The emails that are not ‘bounced’ often have a large amount of legitimate text in them, along with a GIF, often copypasta’d from all over the Internet, to make filtering a bit riskier.

I spent an hour looking for a way to simply obliterate GIF attachments, save for a small number of email addresses that I expect the content to, if only to stem the flow of crapmail hitting my inbox. Since I wasn’t getting anywhere, I turned to ChaCha, whose search guides get paid to search. :)

Here’s the log of that conversation, and GayleneW, thanks for being friendly about the whole thing, even though it took perhaps ten minutes. :)

Status: Looking for a guide …
Status: Connected to guide: GayleneW
GayleneW: Welcome to ChaCha!
You: ‘allo!
GayleneW: hello, I will be assisting you today!
GayleneW: What exactly are you in search of
You: Well, I’ve been poking around to find a way to use procmail to deny emails that contain attachments of .gif images.
You: And, for once, I’m stumped.
GayleneW: ok let me see what I can find for you one moment please
You: Okay. :)
GayleneW: Thanks for being patient! Rest assured I’m finding the most relevant results for your search.
You: Not a problem. :)
GayleneW: What exactly is Procmail, so I know if I am in the right area with my searches
You: Procmail is a mail agent used mostly on non-Windows servers, to process email.
GayleneW: look over this site while I try to find others and let me know if I am in the right area
You: Unfortunately, that site only covered how to pipe mail with certain headers to a separate mail spool.
GayleneW: ok I am reading a few others, sorry, thought I got lucky there.
GayleneW: I am still searching for you
You: That’s okay. :)
GayleneW: Look over this one and I will continue to look again
You: Doesn’t cover procmail, actually; They’re dealing with old HTML Imagemaps. :)
GayleneW: I havent given up, now it is a challenge haha
You: That’s what I ended up saying. I spent an hour, and feel like I’m going in circles. :)
GayleneW: how about this one?
You: Hm! That just might do it. :)
GayleneW: oh that would be awesome!
GayleneW: Here are some links to things about procmail
GayleneW: Would you like me to continue looking?
You: Delicious. :) That second link is one I lost years ago. :)
GayleneW: oh great then I have been helpful!
You: I think I can pick up from this point. Time to get in the kitchen and whip up some image spam blocking. :)
GayleneW: hahaha great good luck and thanks for choosing Chacha!
You: Thanks very much. :)
GayleneW: Your welcome, have a super evening!

It’s guides like her that would tempt me to use them more, if only to give them something to search for and earn money with.

I had another guide a while back when I was first trying ChaCha that would make anyone not want to come back. I flagged her as bad, with her attitude, and not even asking if the search results (Seburo Compact-Exploder) were relevant — while one of the results was interesting, and the other was the port of the gun to Second Life, it wasn’t what I was seeking. Notice how Gaylene asked me for more information so she could tune her search to find what I was looking for, and actually made the effort on a topic that isn’t asked about so much.

She even helped me find an old link I used to use for Procmail recipes, which I promptly delicious’d.

This is good service. :)

(progress report: 92% done with the curriculum :D)
