Bankruptcy is a weird thing.

There’s one thing that baffles me about bankruptcy.

Why is it that it costs so much to file bankruptcy (I’ve been quoted $900-1800 by attorneys), when you’re filing it because you can’t pay your bills?

You’d think that those’re the kind of people you’d want to help out by not charging them the equivalent of a mortgage payment. :)

While I understand people need to be paid and all, you’d think that either the cost would be based on a case by case basis, or far lower ($500, maybe) than these quoted prices.

(by the way, if you know someone who’ll help me file bankruptcy for a very low cost, please let me know. leave me a comment, and we’ll discuss.)
