Well, today, while reading meeblog, I learned of another AJAX application called Writely through another commenter, Abhay.
Today seems to be the day that AJAX went big here in Saltwater territory, but that’s quite fine with me.
AJAX is “Asynchronous JavaScript and XML”, which is a pretty spiffy trick of code that will not work in all browsers, and for obvious reasons. You’ll want a fairly up to date browser to play with any of the AJAX apps I’ve posted today. Sadly, Safari and Opera aren’t fully supported for various reasons (read: quirks in their own rendering engines).
What AJAX is being used for, in Writely’s case, is to provide an intermediate word processing environment in one’s browser.
Right now, it’s pretty sweeeet stuff there.
Guess it’s time to add a category called “AJAX”.

To answer the question posed by Keilaron: Writely is a collaborative editor rather than just an web-based editor. It’s certainly not as pretty (at least not yet) as FCKEditor but it’s certainly has the scope to be much more functional.
