QPN: PornBlogs?

Something I’ve noticed is…
In the weblogging community — That is, the blogosphere — there are mechanisms that let us let everybody know “HI! I’VE UPDATED, COME LOOK!”

Whether it be Weblogs.com, Blo.gs, or any of the specialized services, there’s a place we can poke, say we’ve updated, and run like hell.

No such creature exists in the artistic world, and especially not for furry artists. Why hasn’t someone taken this idea, and run with it? Yeah, it’d require some money to pay for hosting for the pinging site, but all it’d take beyond that is:

* Artists procuring software that could send a ping (For example, we can actually take a copy of WordPress, add the ping server to the list here in the admin center, and make our usual posts. In fact, you’d probably just want to add one plugin that’s designed to make it easier on uploading, and maybe a ‘read more’ plugin of some sort, so the pictures don’t have to be loaded).
* (Optional) A program that any user on any platform can run that will allow them to make a similar ping, just in case they’re hosted somewhere that won’t allow them to run server-side scripts (php, perl, python, etc).
* A server with a script like what would be used at Weblogs.com or somewhere else. One that generates an RSS feed and an Atom feed.
* Categories to ping to.
** Why categories? Simple: Not everyone likes the same kind of stuff. Using scripts, and maybe even subdomains if necessary, it should be fairly easy. Probably standardize a set of keywords: male-male, male-female, female-female, herm-*, etc (I’ll detail this more later, perhaps), and have a user ping with this. Generate feeds with the resulting pings, and allow users to subscribe to the feeds. As it stands, one can already subscribe to a WordPress blog’s feed, should they find an artist using WP for their posting.

In fact… why not do something like this for pinging:
Let’s use one of my cheap domains for the idea: hermvixen.info is mine.
//artping.hermvixen.info/?genders=______&contents=______
I’m sure that, using case sensitivity, 26 letters ought to be enough to cover most couplings and fetishes and whatnot.
I mean, ?genders=mM should be obvious enough: Younger male, Adult male.
And ?contents=aoc could be easy, too - anal, oral, cumshot.

I’ll detail this sometime later. Right now, I need sleep.

26 letters aren’t enough, by far - ust look at the wixxx flags on your typical MUCK (like Tapestries). Maybe 640K letters would be enough for everybody, though. ;)

That being said, a mechanism like the one you describe is too easy to abuse (by spammers), and not selective enough, either. I’m pretty sure that most people would soon cry out for more flexibility with regard to what appears and what not - for example, the ability to limit things to certain artists only and the like. Not to mention that many people are (basically) interested in more than one category, anyway.

Overall, it seems like a much better idea to just get RSS feeds for each artist’s account on sites like VCL, SA etc. that update as new art is posted there - that would allow some much more fine-grained control over what you want to see and what you don’t want to see (”don’t want to see” as in “it takes up too much space and I’m just skipping over it, anyway”, not “I actively dislike this and am offended by it”).

What you describe *sounds* like a good idea, and I’d be happy to try it out, but if you ever tried keeping up with the entire VCL’s new art postings, for example, well, you know what I mean. ;)

Well, Schnee…
26*2 isn’t enough, I agree, but for a start, it should be well enough.
52 letters to describe the most common fetishes should be enough.

As long as I can go back later with a script and upgrade the old to the new, should the necessity of having more than fifty-two fetish describing characters, it should work out pretty well.

I admit: I didn’t go into as much detail as I’d like.
Perhaps we should think of it as “blo.gs does art”, if I can go as far as having a basic login system for users to choose who or what to follow.

On another thought: I’m not so sure spammers bother with pinging a system that lets someone know that ‘Hello, my site is updated.’ as much as they like to comment-spam-bomb weblogs, in general.
Perhaps a system could be put in place:
When you register your art place, you will be required to give a valid email address, where we will send you a small snippet of code to be placed in your page that we will look for (Technorati/BlogShares style).
Once this is successfully done, your first two pings will require that you click a verification link in an email.

Or something. I’m ill, and I’m not thinking completely.
