6A+LJ = MovableJournal? LiveType?

(22:45:28) TheCrypto: Hey, the two companies you have a bit of ill will towards, LJ and Six Apart are merging
(22:47:52) Xial: WHAT THE FUCK?!@#!#!???

I don’t like MovableType. I don’t like how the software works. I don’t like how much of a headache it was to set it up all the way up to 3.0DE. I can’t speak for later versions, and I won’t. I don’t feel like being troubled to see if it’s changed AGAIN. It was slow, felt kludgy, and not very friendly for users like me.
It’s part of why I came to WordPress — I liked being able to hit a couple of keys, and insert formatting easily. Hell, right now, WordPress has the best browser-based entry field I’ve used. Bold? Bold. Just alt+b gives me what I need.

I don’t really care for LiveJournal that much, but I respect them: They took a powerful project, made it open source for everyone to have at, and keep making new and useful things for it, rather than letting it stagnate.

I guess that LJ just needs the money to stay alive, or Six Apart needs the userbase LJ provides to boost their stats? As it stands, I don’t think that TypePad, a Six Apart project, will ever be what LiveJournal is now.

The question, however, is “What happens to LJ, once 6A buys? What changes go into effect? Will MT and LJ be kept as separate monsters, or will some horrible licensing mismash come of it? Will I find myself angry or offended enough to block LJ’s syndication service once the new licensing comes into effect, and demand a backup of all of my data — and not be forced to use their backup page 36+ times to get all of my entries?”

I’m just going to sit back, pop a can of soda, and watch the sparks 1 2 3 as the news spreads over the blogosphere.

Motherlovin’ UPDATE:
We’ve got verification.
TIMES TWO.
Fuck it, TIMES THREE.

How’re THEM apples?

  1. My wholehearted what the bloody fuck goes out in their direction, too.

  2. As long as it’s just some random person saying “I have learned exclusively”, I wouldn’t put too much trust in that.

  3. Schnee:
This guy is one of the trusted sources in the blogosphere.
This is why people believe the news.

I’m fairly sure it’s true, myself.

  4. I tried MT.. It started of Fine but the updates slowly fucked it over then they released the pitifil MT Blacklist as a plugin.. ACK! Then If you read Iampraiah.com His experience with MT breaking down was enough for him to go to Wordpress.

I can see it going two ways as stated on my blog - Ither LJ would improve - never be down as much as It has and abuse will actually be an abuse service and not teens with hormaly friendly acne or… it’ll become just as nasty as MT with teh spam crap.. ICK.. Wither way thank god I have EE! Becuase it LJ does go plonkers I ain’t paying to just keep up with friends there no more and I’ll have my home.. *S*

MT was fucked from the beginning, hon.
Even with all its improvements, I don’t trust it enough to use it now.

LiveJournal is a bit bleh, and is something I care to not use. Granted, I still have an LJ (xial), but, I prefer to stay off their servers, personally.
The LJ project is stronger to me than 6A’s MT and TP put together.

About the person you mentioned going over to WP from MT:
I can’t get to that site, but I bet I can tell you one of the things that drags MT down.
