First, this link: Weather Underground: Tropical view — Shows you the state of the tropical waters around the southern United States.
See what I see?
Tropical Storm Bonnie, and Hurricane Charley.
Now, this link: Weather Underground: 33611 (Tampa, FL) — Where I am. (For reference, I’m on the tiny little dangly thingy in the middle of the Bay there.)
The problem:
For the past several years, our area has been spared by many a Tropical Storm and Hurricane. These two, however, are beginning to tweak with us. As they get closer, we worry over them.
Bonnie doesn’t seem too bad, but Charley (strike map) has me a bit concerned.
If he stays over that warm water and only grazes Cuba, his chances of moving up a level or two, to Category 2 or Category 3, grows quickly.
Have a look at several computer projections of the storm, and notice the yellow path. Right now, even with where the storm is at, it has a chance of slipping onto the yellow path, which steers that ball of water and wind RIGHT OVER TAMPA BAY. If this is the case, Tampa Bay (the bay itself) will be shut down from all marine traffic for the first time in years. This… worries me. Somehow.
