This was worth a read. Found it via Delicious: PaidType, for lack of better words.
I knew this day was coming. Swollen heads equal swollen pockets, right?
They’re hoping so, at least, over at Six Apart. The newest version of MovableType apparently has a paid licensing structure, with an honor bound limitation for usage.
Have a look at their pricing structure, and tell me what’s up with that, eh?
So, what they’re saying is…
If my girlfriend (
forsolei – Solei) and I wanted to run our own weblog together, using Em Tee, it would cost us $100 to get their stupid license?
Gee, get a clue, Ben and Mena:
There are plenty of free options floating around on the net. Often, there is a variant of MT2* for each system , so that people can preserve their MT posts when moving to the new system.
So why are people going to pay you for MT, when there are alternatives?
Sure, you’ve got a well-developed plugins system and a stubborn following that’ll give you their first born, but for the rest of us who have a clue, we’ll sit here and just laugh at you until you either fix your licensing, or go under.
